KDEN Concourse A East Expansion

I'm happy to announce that KDEN V1.2 is coming soon to MSFS! This will, as always, be a free update! The primary focus here is on the much requested eastern Frontier expansion of Concourse A. However, there are alot of other exciting features included as well that I want to share!

To start off with, all taxiway edge and center lights have been replaced with custom models. Runway Guard Lights, while already custom, have received dramatically improved models!

KDEN Edge Lights

Additionally, edge lights have been placed by hand according to satellite imagery. Typically, edge lights are placed at fixed intervals along edges, however this is unrealistic. In reality, edge lights are spaced rather far apart on long straight segments of taxiways, and very densely along curves and at taxiway intersections. Now KDEN closely replicates this placement as shown below!

Custom centerline lights, while placed with linear data vs by hand, have their density properly increased on curves, and are properly offset to the side of the centerline. Additionally, due to their custom nature, centerline lights on the runway are properly alternated between green and yellow variants up until the hold short line.

KDEN MSFS Runway Guard Lights

All these new lights use the native MSFS "billboard" style lights, in addition to custom spills, so they're visible from further than the "fake" billboards used for guard lights in the past.

Another very exciting feature coming to KDEN 1.2 in MSFS is custom taxi signs! These are generated via a custom algorithm I developed to more closely match FAA standards with high quality models.

KDEN MSFS Taxiway Signs

Now, at this point you may be wondering "why are you wasting time on a complicated system for taxisigns, when the sim already has taxi signs that look descent?". That's a great question! The answer is default taxiway signs have two issues.

The first is, they aren't double sided. Often on runways entrances/exits, taxiway signs have text on both sides. MSFS simply does not have this capability, as basic as that sounds. So you have to have two taxi signs, one of which is rotated 180 degrees.

The second, less serious, issue was the font was wrong, and monospaced. While not serious, this did remove a bit of immersion once you realized real taxisigns have a variable space between characters (for example L and T are spaced closer than L and A because of their shape).

My custom taxiway signs feature text on both sides, and fonts/spacing that are (reasonably) close to the FAA's specifications. They also cast light on the ground, are higher quality models, and offer flexibility for different types of signs. While these have been featured in my X-Plane sceneries for many months, they're now going to start making their way into my MSFS sceneries as well!

KDEN MSFS Taxiway Signs

As preview last month, I've developed new much more realistic and detailed car models, which will make their debut in KDEN!

And now (finally) here are some previews of the eastern expansion of Concourse A! Being ramps that are boarded from the ground vs jetways, there was a lot of ground detail to add, which really helped bring this terminal to life!

Of course, as with any update, this update comes with a host of fixes. Various ground texture artifacts, some terminal model bugs, and jetways being too short for certain aircraft at certain gates have all been patched. There's also plenty of little improvements, such as improved grunge, and all the service roads now being paved with custom textures vs ortho.

Now the final question - When will this be available? The answer is soon! I fully intend to have KDEN available before the end of the year (pending Marketplace processing time).

A side note for X-Plane users - most of these features are already in the shipping version for X-Plane! However, the new centerline lights and A eastern expansion will be releasing around the same time as the MSFS version!

Overall, this update should provide a substantial improvement to all user's experience, and I can't wait for you all to be able to enjoy it!
